COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven to 375°F (or according to your recipe preference). Prepare a baking dish by greasing it lightly.
In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced fresh peaches (or drained canned peaches) with 1/4 cup of sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently until the peaches are well-coated, then pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
In another bowl, mix together the flour, additional sugar (1-2 cups), baking powder, and any spices you wish to include. Whisk until well combined.
Add the melted or chilled butter to the dry ingredients, mixing until crumbly. If desired, pour in the milk and stir just until the mixture is moistened.
Spoon the cobbler topping over the peach filling, spreading it evenly to cover the fruit.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Canned peaches save preparation time and are just as flavorful as fresh.
For best results, consider using ripe, juicy peaches that are in season for a burst of flavor.
Adjust the sugar level based on the sweetness of the peaches you choose. If you enjoy a crispier topping, bake it a bit longer until it reaches your desired level of golden-brown perfection.
Enjoy your Southern Peach Cobbler warm, and remember that leftovers can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated for a delightful treat later on!
