Sloppy Joes on Garlic Bread

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup bell pepper optional
  • 15 ounces Manwich sloppy joe mix or homemade equivalent
  • Various seasonings e.g., chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper
  • 10- ounce frozen garlic bread loaf or similar
  • 1 cup shredded cheese e.g., cheddar, Colby jack, mozzarella
  • Chopped parsley or green onions for garnish optional

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F or 400°F. While the oven is heating up, start cooking the sloppy joe filling. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion and bell pepper (if using) until the meat is fully cooked and the vegetables are tender.
  • Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the Manwich sloppy joe mix and any additional seasonings you prefer. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes until it's heated through and the flavors meld together.
  • While the filling is simmering, prepare the garlic bread. Thaw the frozen garlic bread slightly and cut it in half horizontally. If desired, spread garlic butter on the cut sides of the bread for extra flavor.
  • Place the bread halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Evenly divide the sloppy joe mixture over the cut sides of the garlic bread. Top each half with 1 cup of shredded cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-18 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Once done, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the bread sit for about 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired, then slice and serve hot.
  • For best results, consider using leftover cooked ground beef or turkey for a quicker preparation. You can also experiment with different cheese varieties or add ingredients like pickled jalapeños for a spicy kick.
  • Allowing the assembled garlic bread to sit for a few minutes before baking helps the flavors meld and soak into the bread, enhancing the overall taste.
