FRIED CINNAMON APPLE RINGS

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • - 3 large apples
  • - 1 cup flour
  • - 1 teaspoon baking soda or baking powder
  • - 1/2 cup sugar
  • - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • - 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • - 1 egg
  • - 1 cup buttermilk or milk with vinegar
  • - Vegetable oil for frying
  • - Additional sugar and cinnamon for coating

Instructions

  • Cooking Instructions:
  • Begin by peeling and coring the apples, then slice them into thin rings about ΒΌ inch thick. Use a cookie cutter or apple corer to remove the core from each apple slice.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda or baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), egg, and buttermilk or milk with vinegar until well combined to form a batter. Using Honey Crisp or Granny Smith apples will yield the best results for flavor and texture.
  • Preheat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat until hot enough for frying.
  • Dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off before carefully placing them into the hot oil.
  • Fry the battered apple slices for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown. Carefully flip them once the bottom side has browned.
  • Once cooked, remove the fried apple rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet.
  • In a separate small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Once the apple rings are cool enough to handle, coat them in the cinnamon sugar mixture on both sides.
  • Serve the fried apple rings warm, with chocolate sauce or caramel sauce for dipping. Enjoy your delicious creation!
