Cooking Instructions
In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some bits for texture.
Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, chipotle sauce, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into patties. You should be able to make about 4 patties.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
If using burger buns, toast them lightly in the skillet during the last couple of minutes of cooking.
Serve the black bean burgers on buns or on a plate, topped with your favorite condiments and sides.
Extra Tips
For added flavor and texture, feel free to mix in additional ingredients such as corn, bell peppers, or shredded cheese into the patty mixture.
If you want to make these burgers ahead of time, you can prepare the patties and refrigerate them for up to a day before cooking. They also freeze well, so you can make a batch and have them ready for a quick meal later on!
Enjoy your black bean burgers with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
