Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 1 can black beans rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon chipotle sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • Burger buns optional
  • Toppings of choice lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.

Instructions

  • Cooking Instructions
  • In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some bits for texture.
  • Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, chipotle sauce, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
  • Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into patties. You should be able to make about 4 patties.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  • If using burger buns, toast them lightly in the skillet during the last couple of minutes of cooking.
  • Serve the black bean burgers on buns or on a plate, topped with your favorite condiments and sides.
  • Extra Tips
  • For added flavor and texture, feel free to mix in additional ingredients such as corn, bell peppers, or shredded cheese into the patty mixture.
  • If you want to make these burgers ahead of time, you can prepare the patties and refrigerate them for up to a day before cooking. They also freeze well, so you can make a batch and have them ready for a quick meal later on!
  • Enjoy your black bean burgers with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
