Cooking Instructions
In a small pot, combine the milk and salted butter, heating over medium until the butter melts completely. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
In a stand mixer with a dough hook, add the melted milk mixture, granulated sugar, instant dry yeast, salt, and all-purpose flour. Mix until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Parbake the dough by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll the dough into a 12-inch circle and place it on a baking sheet or pizza pan sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake for about 5-7 minutes until just set but not browned.
Once parbaked, spread a generous layer of cherry pie filling over the dough, leaving about an inch around the edges.
Prepare the streusel topping by mixing granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, salted butter, ground cinnamon, and sliced almonds in a bowl until crumbly. Optionally, you can add old-fashioned oats for extra texture.
Brush the bare edges of the dough with a beaten egg for a golden finish, then sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the cherry filling.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes until the edge of the dough is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Allow the dessert pizza to cool before drizzling with icing. To make the icing, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle it over the cooled pizza.
Slice into pieces and serve, optionally garnishing with mascarpone or cream cheese, and nuts if desired.
For the best results, be sure to let the pizza cool completely before adding the icing; this will prevent the icing from melting and create a beautiful drizzle effect.
Additionally, feel free to experiment with different types of pie fillings or nuts to customize the flavor to your liking. Enjoy your Cherry Dessert Pizza!
